From the title, you expect to learn how the Jedi came to be, and you kind of get a half explained story. This book from what I understand takes place 50,000 years before the movie A New Hope, and instead of being named Jedi, they are referred to as Je’daii and there are subtle differences. If you look closely, you even see why the Jedi fell the Sith. I will explain, but first we will start with the main characters, Lanoree, and Dal. This is a brother (Dal) and sister (Lanoree), both Je’daii. One unable to touch the force at all and grows to despise it so much he’s sickened by it (Dal), and the other incredibly strong in the force. Would love to say how much so, but that would reveal spoilers. The book goes back and forth threw time rapidly, to their childhood and their what the Je’daii call “The Great Journey”, an adventure a young Je’daii embarks on visiting different temples to master his skills and become a full Je’daii, and modern time where Lanoree is sent on a mission to stop Dal...

This book took me awhile as I originally picked it up because I thought it was a Fantasy novel, little did I realize it is Fantasy Romance. So figured welp, I’ve never read Romance, have never even given it a chance so why not?  Honestly, I can see why Fourth Wing is doing well. Intelligently crafted story outline, clever characters, and I love the brittle lead character in a warrior society idea. It’s a very much over used cliche, but the author puts a refreshing spin on it. Everything really is done well, including how the author introduces the antagonist. You may be wondering why I gave it two stars then? First point, the way it reads is very amateurish, which makes sense because most new authors do dive into the Romance genre. Second point, when the author does introduce romance scenes into the book she does it with all the skill of a teenage girl. Final point, it’s Romance and proud as I am of myself for giving it a chance the Genre just doesn’t sit well with me. ⭐️⭐️

The 8th installment of the wheel of time was a slow go for me, not only for personal reasons of having to abandon my old home because of black mold with a 3 year old and 1 year old because the landlord refused to do anything about it. So I had to quit my job and move and find a new job, but because like all of Robert Jordans works there was a lot of useless pages and chapters that really didn’t need to be there nor had anything to do with the story. It was a decent book though, and is very much a need to read if you plan on finishing this series. Comes off as a “necessary evil” I like to say. As it sets up the conflict between the Prophet and the Dragon Reborn Rand Al’Thor, as well as The White Tower and the Rebel Aes Sedai led by Egwene.  I gave it three stars because it is a good book, a very good book, but it drags on despite being the shortest addition to the series so far. It’s a total of 644 pages, but honestly if you omit all the needless parts, it would probably be 250 page...

I was suggested this book by a few people, and wasn’t sure about it because it was listed very high on books recommended by the LGBTQ+ community. I have nothing against the community, but being a straight man I wasn’t sure how a work like that would sit with me. When I broke open the book, it seemed like I blinked and 120 pages FLEW by! The storyline is absolutely flawless and the crew of the Wayfarer feel like they are a part of your family. Normally I enjoy action packed sci-fi like The Expanse, which in this novel you get precious little of except for the Quelin boarding the Wayfarer and knocking out the captain. Even with the lack of action, the story is so well constructed that you don’t even notice it. May be one of the best books I have ever read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
