Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void

From the title, you expect to learn how the Jedi came to be, and you kind of get a half explained story. This book from what I understand takes place 50,000 years before the movie A New Hope, and instead of being named Jedi, they are referred to as Je’daii and there are subtle differences. If you look closely, you even see why the Jedi fell the Sith. I will explain, but first we will start with the main characters, Lanoree, and Dal.

This is a brother (Dal) and sister (Lanoree), both Je’daii. One unable to touch the force at all and grows to despise it so much he’s sickened by it (Dal), and the other incredibly strong in the force. Would love to say how much so, but that would reveal spoilers. The book goes back and forth threw time rapidly, to their childhood and their what the Je’daii call “The Great Journey”, an adventure a young Je’daii embarks on visiting different temples to master his skills and become a full Je’daii, and modern time where Lanoree is sent on a mission to stop Dal from opening a Hypergate which will destroy the system and everything in it.

Now when I mentioned that the book does show you very subtly why the Jedi fell to the Sith, when I say it’s subtle I mean it’s very subtle. Let’s start with what we know about the Jedi, warriors of light that want nothing to do with the dark side, rejecting its temptation at every turn. Sounds noble right? Well, the Je’daii would say they are unbalanced and lost. The Je’daii believe that you need both the light AND the dark for perfect balance, both Ashla and Bogan. For example, if a loved one dies, the light gives you the memory and sympathy for that loved one to live on in your heart, the dark allows you to live on with your life. So, by this description, Anakin Skywalker was the chosen one, for it was he who brought darkness back into the Jesus life, forcing them to find balance. You can not have balance without two sides that weigh the same.
